Garnier Fructis De-Constructed Texture Tease Dry Touch Finish Spray | Review

I never used to understand dry texture sprays and aerosol dry shampoos, but since I discovered that volume is my new best friend on second day hair I can’t get enough of them! Most come with a higher price tag though, so I was very excited to try out Garnier’s new De-Constructed Texture Tease Dry Touch Finish Spray. I picked mine up at Target for less than $4, which is a steal considering that my current favorite dry texture spray is $20!

This product claims to add texture and volume to flat, lifeless hair for that beachy tousled look. It’s supposed to have a flexible, non-sticky hold that can easily be re-styled. An instant dry down and weightless finish are also promised.

After a couple weeks of testing, I have mixed feelings towards this little guy. It does add volume and texture to my hair and it makes it very easy to achieve the effortless “I woke up like this” hairstyle on the second day. I haven’t had issues with the nozzle clogging and it delivers a slightly more powerful but consistent spray. I feel like Garnier delivered the bare basics here, but all the little nuances that make a product a must have product for me were left out. First of all, I wouldn’t take this travelling because the top fell off before I even made it to the checkout line. A bit disappointing but something I can live with if the stuff inside is great. Secondly, I don’t care for the smell. This is hugely a personal preference. If you like fruity, slightly more teenager-y scents then you’ll probably love it! The fragrance also really sticks around. A downside for me but a big plus for refreshing post workout hair.

If the cons stopped here I’d be thrilled but, alas, the biggest downside for me come with the formula itself. It promises a non-sticky finish, a claim on which I don’t feel it delivers. I was prepared for a touch of tackiness, but even a little spritz of this feels almost like I’ve put spray gel on my roots. It gives good grip to slippery strands to hold a tease or an updo but it’s not the dry finish I was expecting. This stuff is also SUPER long lasting. I had to use a clarifying shampoo to wash away all of the residue, my regular gentle shampoo just wasn’t cutting it.

The Verdict

I’ll use it up but I won’t be repurchasing. I don’t hate it, don’t love it; it’s just kind of meh. It wasn’t quite what I was expecting and the stickiness really drove me crazy after several days. That being said, I have heard some rave reviews so if you like fruity scents and you’re in the market for some texture this might be a perfect match! And for the price there’s certainly no harm giving it a chance.
